COVID-19 Relief Fund
Did you know...
We currently have 58 members, 40 (or 70%) of which are completely volunteer. These volunteer members work for various business in the Crested Butte community to earn their livings; a majority of these businesses are now completely shut down in light of the current COVID-19 crisis. These individuals have essentially seen a complete loss of income. Additionally, many of the employed members of the Crested Butte Fire Protection District must also work a second job to make ends meet and now those jobs have been shut down.
Our members have been working hard on the front lines of the COVID-19 event over the past few weeks. We are currently the staffing arm that is serving the population of the Crested Butte Fire Protection District with critical 911 Emergency Services (Fire, EMS, Critical Care, Rescue). We additionally serve as automatic mutual aid to the rest of Gunnison County; as well as by request to Chaffee, Hinsdale, and Eagle Counties.
We have seen a dramatic number of new calls related to COVID-19 and we have accordingly increased our staffing up to double our normal emergency crew staffing. These crews are overwhelmingly staffed by volunteer professionals who are in dire times at home. These members need immediate essential support to assist with their day to day lives; assisting their ability to answer the call when those in need dial 911.
Our goal is to establish an appropriate level of earmarked funds to allow for disbursements related to COVID-19 relief to our members, as well as additional community organizations related to our efforts.
We are reaching out to our community to ask for your help in building this fund. Right now our goal is $150,000. Your donations are greatly appreciated by not only our members but others in our community who may be in need during this crisis. Should we achieve our funding goals, we already have established a percentage of the excess not awarded to the membership, to go to other community non-profit organizations who are working diligently to combat the crisis in their own manner.
To make a tax deductible donation, please visit our donations page on our website to make a donation via PayPal. You can also mail donations directly to the Crested Butte Fire & EMS Volunteer Association: PO Box 1576, Crested Butte, CO 81224.
We greatly appreciate your support during this dire time of need for not only our members but our entire community.
